Escoffier
Award-Winning Chef Giorgio Oldano has headed Culinary Teams at fine
restaurants in London, Paris and Rome. Now, Anna Maria Island is his
home where he creates culinary magic nightly with Authentic Northern
Italian and Provincial Cuisine.
We’ve always been enchanted by this establishment and
you will be too!
Gladys (Giorgio’s wife and partner) greeted us with a
warm smile and provided us with seating and a listing of fine wines
ranging from affordable to pricey. The two of us sipped from an
excellent bottle of Barbera di Asti ($38.00), a smooth, medium bodied red
wine and munched on warm Ciabatta Bread, baked on premises, with a
fabulous olive spread called Intingolo.
A quick glance at paintings around the room had me
viewing the splendor of Giorgio’s hometown, Asti, (as in Asti Spumante),
in Northern Italy.
We were soon swept up with an enchanting performance
of Italian melodies with occasional rounds from Giorgio himself. The
music is “very” tastefully performed with piano and trumpet solos from
Tuesday through Saturday evenings.
An OUTSTANDING appetizer of Sottilissima Albese
($9.95) was shared by the two of us featuring thin slices of tender,
rare beef with shavings of Parmesan cheese.
The soup of the day is not to be missed as this
evening we enjoyed a creamy tomato- basil blend ($5.95). Tricolor mixed
greens served with shaved Parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar dressing
($6.95) soon followed. Both were exceptional, but if I were to choose
between the two, by all means go for the SOUP! He’s a MASTER!
For entrees, we each selected something different and
shared our choices. All entrees except the pastas and eggplant are
served with vegetables and potato or polenta. My spouse thoroughly
enjoyed a rich flavorful Veal Marsalla ($18.95) with porcini mushrooms
that was colorfully presented with yellow squash, zucchini, carrots and
polenta.
I was “captivated” by the Fettuccini al Salmone
Affumicato ($18.95), homemade noodles served with sautéed smoked salmon,
onions and a full bodied pink cream sauce that clung to the light pasta
noodles.
When visiting this establishment, keep in mind that
all pastas are made in house, by hand! On a previous visit we sampled
the Lasagna All’Emiliana ($14.95), a traditional Italian lasagna with
meat sauce that’s topped with a thin layer of béchamel. Very Good! Other
pasta dishes include Fettuccini Bolognese, Penne Alla Vodka, Linguini
Alle Vongole Veraci, Freschezza Del Mare as well as Gnocchi Al
Gorgonzola and more. Veal Shrimp, Tuna Steak, Filet Mignon, Rack of
Lamb, Eggplant and Risotto are also main attractions. Prices range from
$13.95 to $28.95.
“I Dolci” or dessert is a MUST! A sinfully delicious
Crème Brulee ($4.95) features a sugary crystallized surface with a hint
of orange that breaks through to spectacular cream custard. The
Chocolate Hazelnut or Cheesecake and Tiramisu are also excellent
choices. But, we desired sweetness without the calories. The lemon
sorbet was the perfect choice.
A very nice finish to a superb evening!
